A further $30 million is available to enable communities to upgrade security at local centres under round three of the Safer Communities Fund.
Community groups have until 25 September 2018 to apply for the funding.
This latest funding round brings the total amount available under the Safer Communities Fund to $70 million between 2016-17 and 2019-20.
Minster for Home Affairs Peter Dutton says that all Australians have a right to feel safe and secure when their communities come together.
“The Safer Communities Fund strengthens the capability of local councils and community organisations to address crime and anti-social behaviour,” Mr Dutton said.
“I encourage local councils and community organisations to apply.”
The Fund has already assisted more than 200 recipients to upgrade security infrastructure such as CCTV cameras and lighting, and environmental design initiatives to prevent crime.
Applicants can also apply for funding for activity-based youth engagement or crime prevention projects, targeted at Police‑Citizens Youth Clubs, Blue Light organisations and Youth off the Streets.
Information on how to apply for funding is available on the Australian Government’s Safer Communities Fund – Infrastructure Stream website at business.gov.au/safer-communities-fund, or by calling 13 28 46.
