Accidents and traffic delays at a Bruce Highway Overpass have sparked a campaign run by two Federal Members to see it upgraded.
The Member for Dickson Peter Dutton and the Member for Petrie Luke Howarth have been running a petition calling on the Queensland State Government, which has responsibility for the road, to upgrade the Linkfield Road Overpass.
This is a particularly dangerous piece of road because two lanes merge into one just metres before the northbound Highway on-ramp the Member for Dickson Peter Dutton said.
“Many constituents in Brendale, Warner, Eatons Hill and Albany Creek have expressed concerns about this overpass, particularly the issue of two lanes merging into one just before drivers turn north onto the highway.
“There have been several accidents at this overpass in the past, and it needs to be upgraded,” Peter Dutton said.
As recently as August 2017, 5 people were hospitalised in an accident at this road overpass and there are frequent near misses according to regular users of the road.
The Linkfield Road overpass is not only dangerous but is also a frustrating bottleneck said the Member for Petrie Luke Howarth.
“I want to see this overpass upgraded as soon as possible, there have already been serious accidents at this location and it is frustrating for locals who are spending time each day sitting in traffic that could be spent with their families. We are calling on the State Government to prioritise this upgrade in their upcoming budget,” Luke Howarth said.
Since the campaign officially launched in March 2018, there have been over 2500 people sign the petition online and many more who have signed paper copies.
