Preschools and child care centres in the Federal electorate of Dickson can join a national programme which introduces preschoolers to a second language.
The Turnbull Government’s Early Learning Languages Australia (ELLA) programme, after a trial period, is now open nationally.
Under the ELLA programme – a play-based way for children to learn – preschoolers can be introduced to Arabic, Chinese, French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese or Spanish.
The Member for Dickson Peter Dutton urged preschools and child care centres to sign up.
“This programme can have a very positive impact. Research shows children enjoy real cognitive and developmental benefits from being exposed to another language in their earliest years,” Mr Dutton said.
Preschools and child care centres can get detailed information and sign-up to join the programme at www.ella.edu.au.
