Hopefully kids will be back at school soon and when they go back to Kallangur State School they will notice a giant new shade structure over the pool.
Construction is set to start in coming days on the $15,000 project funded by the Federal Government’s Local Schools Community Fund.
Federal Member for Dickson Peter Dutton said the new shade structure would make it easier for kids to be sun-smart in the warmer months.
“The new shade structure will be of great benefit to children at the school and help put parents’ minds at ease,” Mr Dutton said.
“There is nothing worse than fearing your child may develop melanomas after a severe sunburn and shade structures like this will allow our children to enjoy the pool without getting burnt.
“It is a credit to the school and the P&C for working hard on the project and I am proud to have helped secure the funding.”
School Principal Andrew Swales said the school community was hoping to have the new shade structure complete before spring.
“Our number one priority is to get this project finished in time for spring,” said Mr Swales.
“The new shade will mean children of all year levels can use the pool safely throughout the day next summer and improve their swimming ability.
“This will be of great benefit to our school community and I know the whole school community is looking forward to its completion.”
The Federal Government provided $15,000 funding through the Local Schools Community Fund for this project and $30.2 million for similar projects across the country.
