PETER DUTTON:
Fantastic you guys are out here today, thank you.
The Morcombes have done an incredible job again this year, as they do every year, and over 2,000 people – what an amazing effort.
HOST:
We’ve seen a lot of people come and go throughout this walk, Peter Dutton, but you’ve been here from the very early days.
PETER DUTTON:
We’ve been here for a few years. We did a lot of work with Bruce and Denise on the ACCCE – the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation – and we’ve worked with them to get some funding for the organisation over the years.
The fundraising doesn’t keep the show going, they need support from Government, from every level. When you think of the number of kids that they’ve helped and that they’ve saved, the Morcombe Foundation is an incredible body and that’s truly due to Bruce and to Denise.
HOST:
Absolutely.
HOST:
You would know this better than anyone, it doesn’t matter how hard you fight cybercrime and try and protect children online, that fight is unstoppable because that is always going to go on. The harder we fight, the more we have to fight.
PETER DUTTON:
One hundred per cent. It’s there forever because the big companies, the big tech companies, don’t care about anything other than making profit.
The kids are online being exposed to all sorts of content and material of an adult nature. We would never let our kids access that material if they were going down to the park or the shopping centre, and so if you go to the Morcombe Foundation website and look at some of the material that Bruce and Denise have done, it’s incredible because it educates kids on how to protect themselves online.
HOST:
Well thanks Peter Dutton, thanks so much for your time. You got a bit on your plate in the next day or two I reckon! You got a bit of a busy calendar, maybe, yeah? A bit on?
PETER DUTTON:
Big day tomorrow. I’ve got everything crossed for David Crisafulli. I think it’ll be a great new start for our state and he’s been a big supporter of the Foundation for a long time as well.
HOST:
Thanks, Peter Dutton.
