Growing pupil numbers at Patricks Road State School have put pressure on the school’s facilities and a re-elected Morrison Government will commit financial support to expansion at the school.
Federal Member for Dickson Peter Dutton said a Coalition Government would provide $1,750,000 which would enable a major expansion of the school’s hall to accommodate a variety of uses for the school community.
“Communities in the Dickson electorate have been growing rapidly, and in the case of Patricks Road School, a hall that was built more than a decade ago is no longer fit for purpose,” Mr Dutton said.
“I’m glad to support the school and its P&C Association’s plans to build to extend the existing hall which will be a significant benefit to the school community.”
Acting School Principal Michael Drake said the upgrade would mean the school hall will finally have a modern 21st century hall and would be a great benefit to the whole community.
“The new hall will make a huge difference to our school community,” Mr Drake said.
“Previously when we’ve been holding events, we’ve had to rent out other facilities because we simply haven’t had the facilities on site here, but this hall upgrade will mean we can do it ourselves.
“Our before and after school care programs will also benefit greatly from the new hall,” Mr Drake said.
The proposed extension would provide a larger and more permanent performance stage, a new music-arts room, backstage and marshalling areas, a covered outdoor deck and terraced outdoor seating, kitchen and administration facilities.
The entire project cost is $2,750,000 with the school and P&C securing $1 million of the cost.
“A returned Coalition Government will allocate the outstanding funding for the project to proceed,” Mr Dutton said.
