The Morrison Government continues to support the health and wellbeing of men in Dickson with the Samford Area Men’s Shed receiving $4,000 in funding through the National Shed Development Programme.
Member for Dickson Peter Dutton welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, saying the funding would “greatly assist” an integral part of the Samford Valley community.
“I’m pleased the Samford Area Men’s Shed will be able to boost their shed’s resources with this funding,” Mr Dutton said.
“Belonging to a social group is vitally important for emotional and mental health, and our local Men’s Shed is an important place for men to meet up and participate in meaningful projects.
“To stay healthy, we need to do regular activities and stay connected with the people around us and this is why our local Men’s Shed has become an important part of the Samford Valley and Dickson community.”
The funding, through round 19, will specifically be used for indoor recreational equipment – table tennis equipment, dart boards, indoor bowls mat and equipment, quoits and bocce equipment. This will help facilitate further social events and activities.
Since 2013, the Government has provided $4.92 million through the National Shed Development Programme to support Men’s Sheds across Australia.
A total of 135 men’s sheds were allocated funding under round 19.
The Morrison Government is able to provide unprecedented levels of support for men’s health because of our strong economic management.
