A re-elected Turnbull Government will invest $1.5 million to complete the Dayboro Memorial Showgrounds Precinct Upgrade.
The Member for Dickson Peter Dutton made the commitment to the community at the 25th Dayboro Day Festival.
Mr Dutton said the showgrounds upgrade would benefit many community groups in Dayboro and surrounding areas who use the precinct as a base for their activities.
The funding will enable completion of the showgrounds redevelopment.
It will provide for:
• Stock proofing and resurfacing of the main arena
• Replacement of the old show pavilion to create a multi-purpose exhibition and indoor training facility
• Extension of the old administration building to create a multi-purpose and function facility
• Purchase of mobile grandstands
• Upgrading of camping facilities
The showground facilities are used by a wide variety of community groups including the Show Society, the Working Horse and Dog Committee, Rodeo Association, Pony Club, Trail Riders Club, and football and soccer clubs.
“The showgrounds are a central meeting place for many groups in the Dayboro community and are a focus for many community activities such as today’s Dayboro Day Festival,” Mr Dutton said.
“I am pleased to be able to offer future Federal Government support to the hardworking committees who have overseen the showgrounds project and worked hard to deliver it.”
Stage 1 of the redevelopment was completed recently and saw replacement of the old wooden rodeo arena yards and the addition of a grandstand to create a first-class rodeo facility.
“I congratulate the community for its fundraising to complete that work and acknowledge the financial support of Moreton Bay Regional Council.
“A re-elected Turnbull Government will support the community to complete the redevelopment.
“It will provide a facility that can play host to a larger and wider variety of events.
“It will also bring an increase in visitors to this beautiful rural village on Brisbane’s doorstep with flow on economic benefits to the community,” Mr Dutton said.
