Local defence COMMUNITY MEMBERS recognised with australia day medallion

With limited medallions awarded each year, the award is officially recognised by the National Australia Day Council and is one of the highest forms of recognition that an organisation or workplace can give to an individual.

The Member for Dickson Peter Dutton congratulated Mick Phelan and Coralee Goedhart on receiving the award.

“The Australia Day Medallion gives organisations and workplaces the opportunity to officially recognise individuals who have provided outstanding contributions to their local community. Mr Dutton said.

“Medallion winners are some of the most dedicated and community minded individuals. I congratulate Mick and Coralee on receiving this award and commend them for their hard work. They have gone above and beyond to serve the Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans’ Association and its membership, and it is great to see them officially recognised for their efforts.”

Mick served in the Australian Army for over 20 years in the Royal Australian Signal Corps, completing postings at various locations within Australia and was deployed to the Western Sahara in 1993 and East Timor in 2000. Since discharging from the Army, Mick has provided valuable assistance in establishing, developing and managing the Australian Peacekeeper and Peacemaker Veterans’ Association (APPVA) website. Mick received the Australia Day 2018 Silver Medallion.

Coralee served 15 years in the Royal Australian Air Force working at Amberley, Townsville, Canberra and Laverton before being posted to the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. Coralee has been the QLD Secretary of the APPVA and has become a qualified practitioner of advocacy and Welfare here at a sub branch and is a member of the National Younger Veterans Forum. Coralee received the Australia Day 2018 Bronze Medallion.
