A re-elected Turnbull Government will provide $400,000 to the Carers Foundation
in Dickson.

Announcing the funding, the Member for Dickson Peter Dutton said it would support the
Foundation in its work to provide ‘Care for Carers’.

The Carers Foundation is based at Cedar Creek near Samford and has been operating
for the past twelve years.

The Foundation supports carers by providing them with respite time, education and
rejuvenation programs which allows them to maintain their health, to continue
their vital role of caring at home.

Mr Dutton said that the Federal support would help the Carers Foundation to continue its important work in assisting carers in Brisbane region.

“Carers are selfless people who give up their time to help those who are most needy and are not recognised enough for their contribution,” Mr Dutton said.

“I am pleased to be able to support community organisations such as the Carers Foundation.”

Carers Foundation spokesperson Ronnie Benbow said support for carers was an important welfare issue.

“Some carers haven’t had a day off, a day away from home in years. They suffer social isolation, financial hardship, depression and extreme stress.

“The Foundation hopes to relieve some of these pressures by providing carers ‘time-off ‘at our CedarCreek facility.”

There are an estimated 2.8 million carers in Australia – one in eight people are estimated to be caring for a family member, friend or neighbour.

They are estimated to provide more than $60 billion annually in unpaid care.
