  • Launch of Petition for Super-fast Broadband
Last Friday, Peter Dutton, Federal Member for Dickson, and Seath Holswich, State
Member for Pine Rivers, officially launched the petition to make the business areas of
Strathpine and Brendale a priority for the super-fast broadband rollout.

Mr Dutton and Mr Holswich met with two local business owners from Brendale who
experience first hand the delays with broadband connection in the area.

Mr Holswich said that one of the businesses had to self-fund the installation of a tower on the roof of his business to provide adequate broadband speeds.

“The low-access areas of Brendale and Strathpine need to be made a priority,” Mr
Holswich added.

Mr Dutton highlighted that under the Coalition the rollout will deliver super-fast broadband sooner, at less cost to taxpayers and more affordably for consumers.
“When it comes to fast broadband, Labor has promised big but has not delivered,” Mr
Dutton said.

“Kevin Rudd promised everyone fast broadband by 2013 at a cost of $4.7 billion. Instead
the National Broadband Network has only signed up 10,400 users for its fibre network and the final cost is expected to be over $90 billion under the Gillard Government,” he added.

Mr Holswich said that families, small businesses, schools and hospitals need fast
broadband now, not sometime after 2021. Both Mr Dutton and Mr Holswich encourage all residents to support their petition and can do so by contacting their electorate offices.
