As Chairman of the Pine Rivers District Red Shield Appeal, the Hon Peter Dutton MP today attended the Launch of the 2013 Pine Rivers District Red Shield Appeal.
The keynote speaker of today’s Launch was Mandy Harradine, who works in the Resident Recovery Service at the Salvation Army’s Brisbane centre for the homeless, Pindari Services. Mandy told the breakfast the moving story of her own life, of her struggles with mental illness and how the Salvation Army gave her confidence and hope.
“Mandy’s story was heart breaking, but it was also a message of hope,” Peter Dutton said.
“It illustrated to us all the transformative effect the work of the Salvation Army can have on the lives of Australians, and reminded us how vital it is that we give the Salvos our support,” he added.
The Launch breakfast was attended by a number of community and business leaders, and was successful in raising thousands of dollars for the Salvation Army through a charity auction.
“Please consider volunteering or making a donation to the Red Shield Appeal. The Salvation Army helps more than a million Australians every year; every hour volunteered and every dollar donated counts,” said Mr Dutton.
The Red Shield Appeal door knock will take place over the weekend of the 25th and 26th of May.
