Media Release Thursday 1 November 2012... Minister Plibersek is continuing to attack the States at every chance to distract from her health cuts and Labor’s mismanagement of the health system.
The Minister’s latest distraction was attacking the Victorian Minister to hide her MYEFO cuts.
Shadow Minister Peter Dutton has diagnosed the Labor health disease.
“The Minister’s spin can’t hide the truth, that Labor is always the common element to health system pain,” Mr Dutton said
“It doesn’t matter where you go in this country the story is the same, the Labor disease has been the source of health misery. The cause is always Labor mismanagement and broken trust. In the latest bout of Labor disease, Tanya Plibersek has taken $475 million from the Health Agreement with Victoria. In Queensland the $1.25 billion payroll debacle was made worse by Labor letting the contractor off the hook,” Mr Dutton.
Mr Dutton believes that the evidence of the Labor disease is in black and white.
“No matter how hard Minister Plibersek tries to distract from her cuts, the MYEFO documents reveal $1.5 billion ripped from hospitals and $1.1 billion ripped from families paying for private health insurance,” Mr Dutton said
The COAG Reform Council and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare both report that elective surgery lists have grown since 2007. Mr Dutton is concerned waiting times will blow out further because of Labor’s cuts
“Minister Plibersek has ripped out billions. A double whammy, of forcing people out of private health at the same time as they rip money out of the public hospitals that people will then turn to. I fear for those who will suffer longer waiting lists,” Mr Dutton said.
