Tanya Plibersek has been caught out again selectively quoting and mis-quoting.
Ms Plibersek is trying to cover her private insurance pre-pay bungle.
This is another budget hit to the Government’s elusive surplus.
Ms Plibersek has failed to provide any details of how many thousands of high income private health insurance holders pre-paid their health insurance before 30 June 2012.
“This Government can’t even get a tax grab right. They didn’t close the loop hole and so of course people pre-paid, missed out on the tax slug and haven’t dropped out of private health insurance,” Mr Dutton said.
The Minister’s spin is revealing, distract from her bungled implementation highlighted by Mr Dutton, deny the long term damage to the health system highlighted by Tony Abbott.
“It is one of the greatest acts of incompetence of this dysfunctional Government, and now they try and cover up with spin,” Mr Dutton said.
Ms Plibersek sought to misquote Mr Dutton from a recent Sky interview. For the record, the part of the sentence Ms Plibersek has airbrushed is “They haven’t been able to implement policy, even where they may have had a good intent and as a result of that (the numbers haven’t fallen away from private health insurance coverage)”.
Ms Plibersek ignored the most interesting figure released today by the Private Health Insurance Administration Council.
“There was a considerable increase in contributions in advance (prepayments) in the June 2012 quarter, increasing by approximately $1.2 billion when compared to the previous quarter.”
