Sunday 1 July 2012 Today Australian households will be hit hard by the dramatic increase in private health insurance premiums.
Today at the North West Private Hospital in Brisbane, the Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing, Peter Dutton was standing up for the working families betrayed by Labor.
“Australian families are under huge cost of living pressure. Half the population have private health insurance. From today private health insurance premiums will rise,” Mr Dutton said.
“Lots of families struggle to pay their private health insurance premiums already but from today people should know premiums are going up under Julia Gillard’s new private health insurance tax,” Mr Dutton said.
Mr Dutton is concerned by the increased pressure on the public system caused by Labor.
“People will drop their private health insurance and people will downgrade their private health insurance and that means more pressure on doctors and nurses in emergency departments and people on waiting lists,” Mr Dutton said.
Mr Dutton defended working families from attacks by the Treasurer and the Prime Minister.
“Wayne Swan is treating the Australian public as a joke. I just don’t think Wayne Swan and Julia Gillard get it. Australian families are struggling to make their mortgage payments each month. People are struggling to balance the books and provide for their family and now in addition to the carbon tax they are going to have an increase in their private health insurance premiums,” Mr Dutton said.
