Wednesday 31 May 2012 Lacking the courage to admit that the Government got it wrong on the Chronic Disease Dental Scheme (CDDS), Minister Kim Carr has chosen to muddy the waters by suggestions of inappropriate practice by dentists to disguise his back-flip.
Estimates yesterday revealed another Gillard Government deception, the Professional Services Review advised Estimates that there has been no formal indication from Medicare that they are referring dentists for inappropriate practice.
Minister Carr has attempted to muddy the waters by references to inappropriate practice to avoid talking about the real issue. Honest, professional dentists have been driven toward bankruptcy for doing quality work and merely not understanding the Medicare paperwork requirements.
The Shadow Minister for Health and Ageing, Peter Dutton, continues to defend dentists that have done the right thing and delivered quality service in good faith.
“If the Gillard Government can’t be honest about the issue, how can dentists have any faith that the 11th hour back-flip will protect the dentists that the Government has callously hung out to dry,” Mr Dutton said.
Minister Plibersek, Minister Roxon and Minister Carr have only promised to act because this weak Government faced defeat in the Parliament on Mr Dutton’s Private Members Bill to stop the Government’s political attacks on dentists.
This dysfunctional Gillard Government can’t tell the truth about health and other portfolios and should not be surprised that the Australian people have stopped believing them.
