Club Pine Rivers played host again this year to the Pine Rivers Area Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal Launch on Friday 8 May 2009. The Official Launch Breakfast was kindly provided by the club and brought together local businesses and community leaders, including local high school students to raise funds towards this years Red Shield Appeal.
Pine Rivers Area Red Shield Appeal Chairman, Peter Dutton MP, thanked the club and other local businesses who despite difficult economic times, generously donated items towards the auction that kick started this year’s Appeal.
“The Salvation Army relies on donations to provide community service programs from aged care, youth homelessness, counselling, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, employment services just to name a few.”
“When Victoria was ravaged by bush fires this year we saw first hand the crucial work the Salvation Army provides from the vital physical needs of shelter ,food and clothing to the emotional and mental support of not only victims but emergency service workers and volunteers.”
“Over 100,000 volunteers will help with this year’s appeal including many of our local high school students who give up their weekend to provide the many teams who do a tremendous job doorknocking.”
The breakfast raised a total of $11,085, a great start to reaching the 2009 Pine Rivers Appeal goal of $62,800.
