11 March South Australians should be asking why Federal and State Labor Governments are punishing three small communities in SA by starving their local hospitals of funds.
The Gillard Government today announced spending of $316 million dollars on just two hospitals in New South Wales.
Hundreds of millions more will be revealed in the next Federal Budget
Yet neither the Gillard nor the Rann Government can provide just one million dollars annually to keep the Keith, Ardrossan and Moonta hospitals functioning properly.
Federal Shadow Health Minister Peter Dutton said today Federal and State Labor MPs in South Australia must account for their failure to stand up for their state and constituents.
“The Keith Community Hospital is on the verge of closure yet Labor politicians in South Australia apparently cannot lift a finger to help it.”
“These community hospitals provide vital services, they cost the State Government less to operate than comparable public hospitals, but they are deemed not worthy of support,” Mr Dutton said.
Federal Member for Barker Patrick Secker said it is ridiculous the Gillard Government can fund hospitals in NSW but can not find just one million for these hospitals or make time to meet with board members.
“This Government won over the Independents with multi million dollar promises for regional Australia and here is a genuine case of regional hospitals fighting for their life and Julia Gillard and Nicola Roxon are snubbing the communities that rely on them,” Mr Secker said.
The Coalition will continue to fight for the community hospitals to receive the funding they require.
