26 October 2010 Pine Rivers residents are being asked to remember the thousands of Australian troops who will spend Christmas away from family and friends in the world’s danger spots.
Federal Member for Dickson, Peter Dutton is encouraging locals to send care packages to help boost the morale of our forces deployed overseas this Christmas.
"At a time when it is particularly difficult to be away from family and friends, a letter of support and items from home are a great way of showing our appreciation for the important work our soldiers do" Mr Dutton said.
Thousands of Australian troops will be serving away from home during the holiday season in the Middle East, Afghanistan, East Timor and the Solomon Islands.
Australia Post is offering a free postal service for care packages under 2kg to all Australian Forces Postal Offices.
It is suggested that packages be received by Australia Post by Friday 3 December 2010 in order to reach troops in time for Christmas.
Suggestions on items to include in Care Packages, guidelines on packaging and a list of addresses can be found on Mr Dutton’s website at www.peterdutton.com.au
